Pitch: Euan Emerton Already Gone

Euan Emerton:

Singer/Songwriter from Milton Keynes
Genre: Acoustic / Pop

Why did I choose this song?
I chose this song after seeing Euan play at a gig last year. I really enjoyed his stage presence and his voice.
I think this song would be quite challenging however there is a lot that could be done with it.

Possible ideas:

I'd quite like the idea of at some parts of the video that, there could be a band with drums, bass and the lead singer with a guitar due to the genre.
I also would like there to be some sort of love story in the music video, perhaps the boy chasing the girl. I can imagine it being set in the winter, and have locations such as Southbank, with the London Eye all lit, possibly the west end and perhaps winter wonderland or a funfair? I think it should be filmed when dark as I'd love there to be lots of lights in the background. I'd have a lot handheld shots following the couple and a lot of close ups of the female smiling.

AS MEDIA STUDIES REFLECTION : POST PRODUCTION

TITLES AND CREDITS:

In "unmasked" we were able to use Final Cut Pro more efficiently, particularly with our titles. You can see our progression from our preliminary. We were now able to put our title onto our opening sequence rather than just a black screen, making it look a lot more professional.

Our editing process video.

Preliminary Vs Final Product:

In out preliminary task we were were pushed for time on editing meaning we were restricted to what we could do with our footage.
Whereas for our thriller opening we were given a lot more time and were a lot more used to using Final Cut Pro meaning we could edit continuity aspects such as match on action much smoother allowing real events to appear as if they were happening in real time; creating a sense of verisimilitude. Below i have inserted clips to show this.

Due to there only being one protagonist at a time on screen in our thriller opening we did not demonstrate the '360 degree rule' or 'shot reverse shot'.

In terms of editing there is also a clear difference in our credits. Our preliminary tasks credits are against a black background and appear in an armature font and transition. However from research we found that a black background was not typically used in thriller openings and more simplistic fonts and transitions are usually used so we incorporated this into our thriller opening which is demonstrated below.

AS MEDIA STUDIES REFLECTION: RESEARCH AND PLANNING

find your fave examples of research - pick best blog posts and explore them give examples of research into

the form (same) of a film opening
the conventions of a thriller
audience

Thplanning : pick best pets and explore them , include examples of how the blog as a shared resource helped planning. e.g. storyboard, animatic, shot list, location, moodboard how did they help

In order for our thriller opening to be successful we had to carry out a lot of research.  We placed our research on our group blog.

Our group blog:

Our group blog allowed us all to post individual research, in the same place, our blog was a place for us to store all of our information, making it easy to come back to and reference. The blog worked well, once organised. Ciara took on the role of being our blog administrator, making sure everything was posted in the correct order. Our blog was clear, so when we needed to find something, it was was easy to find. The blog was also very helpful as it allowed us to combine all our individual work and bring it into our group.

Research:

This allowed us to study; transitions, credits, music, timing and more. We found this particularly helpful when it came to inserting our title in our thriller opening. It also allowed us to take note of how genre is presented in the opening.

Individual Thriller Plot Research:

For my individual research, I looked into films such as "Gone Girl" (Fincher, 2014) and "Black Swand"(Aronofsky, 2010). I found the these were thrillers that interested me personally and so researched them further to really try to find and discover what it was about them that intrigued me.

Planning

As part of our planning process, individually we all created plots and presented them to one another. We did this to group different ideas together and decide on which one we liked the most to choose. Once we decided on which/whose idea to use we were then able to put all of this into action.

Once we had this decided we created a storyboard of our idea. This was so we had an idea/plan of what we were going to do. To develop this further we created an animatic version, which included our production logo.

We also made sure we got audience feedback on our storyboard before we planned/filmed.
