TITLE OPENINGS: "SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN" (Sanders, 2012)

9 FRAMES FROM ART OF THE TITLE:

- The music helped to build suspense and tension throughout.

- The dark colour scheme helped to aid the music in building tension.

- The action genre was revealed through the moving images, this was because they featured images of a knight in shining armour.

- The images become clearer when the vocals in the music start.

- The use of props such as the knights sword also gives the audience further insight into the action genre of the film,

I have learnt that film openings proivde the audience with factual information including, actors, editors and producers names as well as, the title of the film. Film openings also use music to compliment the images / backgrounds on screen as well as being a way in which the audience can get an idea of what the film is about. Through, the inages and sound, together, the genre of the film should become quite obvious in a film opening.

MONSTERS INC:

- The visual aspects of the title opening for monsters inc are brightly coloured doors. The bright colours are able to attract young children.
- The big and bold font of the writing also means children are able to understand.
- There is only 6 titles, possibly because its a children's film and they wouldn't be very interested in lots of titles. Or also

Practical Production: I Minute Film

SCREAM SCHOOL

Pre Production:

- For pre production, Ciara and I went to have a look at the locations around the school, we choose the music block as it was a quiet corridor, where we wouldn't have many disruptions, as well as there being access to outside through the music block.

- Also, we made a story board of scenes, so that we had a sense of structure to our film.

- We also used a baseball bat as a prop.

- We also allocated roles, such as Etienne as the camera man, and Ciara, Dan and I would be in the actual film.

- However, we did make a script, this was because there was no dialogue in our clip.

- Ciara played the victim of the murder. Dan and I played two students that went to the school and Etienne was the camera man.

Production:

-For production, we used the camera as a way to involve the audience, as the camera followed to action.

Post Production:

- We used final cut pro to edit our film. This consisted of, trimming, adding sound, filters and transitions to fit the genre of the film.

www: I think we had a clear genre which was good. The film had a clear structure and the prop worked well. I also feel that the way in which we used the camera made the audience feel part of the film. I think the black and white filter also helped with the genre.

ebi: We didn't have as many disagreements, had we had longer, we could have probably spent longer on post production to make our film look more professional, e.g a title, and included the production company name. We could have also used a setting which has better lighting.

I feel I gathered more of an understanding of, each production process. I also learnt how to use final cut pro and next time, would like to have more of an active role in the editing process to further my skills, and would like to have a go at using the camera.

Reflection on end product:

I was happy with our final product, and we received a lot of positive feedback, such as; the black and white filter being very effective, the short scene of the lights switching on and off also contributed to building an eerie atmosphere, as this was mainly what our short clip did. The audience also liked that there was no dialogue and they felt as though they were in the film as the camera was handheld, and when the characters ran, so did the camera. However, the audience did give us a note on the scene with the flickering lights and how it could have been even more effective if we were able to exaggerate it further.

Spectre (Mendes, 2015)

Spectre (Mendes, 2015)

Conventions:

- The use of dialogue such as the protagonist saying "i came here to kill you", engages the audience.

-Shots of action reveal the genre of the film.

- Dramatic soundtrack adds to the action, creating a build up of suspense.

- The title appears at the end of the trailer, in a bold font, with a dark background, and the title in white, allowing it to stand out.

Target Audience:

The target audience can be seen to be for a more male audience. This could be inferred through the action snapshots and that the film seems to be mainly dominated, the protagonist is also male and features lots of vehicles, which could connote to men.

Distributor:

The distributor was able to promote the film through posters, at bus stops, underground stations and on taxis as well as television adverts.

My personal response:

I didn't feel this was a trailer that made me want to watch the film but I think this was because, I don't actually like action films.

INTERVIEW:

BOX OFFICE : $880.7 MILLION
BUDGET:$245 MILLION

SOUNDTRACK :

Thomas Newman returned as Spectre's composer. Usually, the composer would work during post - production but Newman worked during filming. Altogether, the film consists of 79.29 minutes of music.
In September 2015 it was announced that Sam Smith and regular collaborator Jimmy Napes had written the film's title theme, "Writing's on the Wall", with Smith performing it for the film. The song was released later that month where it received mixed reviews from critics and fans, particularly in comparison to Adele's "Skyfall". It became the first Bond theme to reach number one in the UK Singles Chart.

DISTRIBUTION: CASE STUDY THE HUNGER GAME: MOCKINGJAY - Part 1 (Lawrence,2014)

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 ( Lawrence, 2014)

The Conventions:

- The trailer includes, intense, high in action snap shots of the film in order to engage the audience, whilst also revealing the genre.

- The trailer also includes the faces of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson providing a sense of star appeal, as well as allowing the audience to meet the main characters.

- The soundtrack also helps to accentuate the genre as well as creating a build up full of suspense.

-Key moments of the film are revealed through, special effects for the explosions.

- The title of the film is also revealed. The title appears bright, with an image of a bird in a ring, with fire around it and the title in bold print. This allows the audience to remember the title more vividly.

Target Audience:

The target audience is, teenagers. This is made clear through the well known cast, as well as the intense scenes of action.

My Personal Response:

I felt the trailer worked well. I thought this because, the scenes shown were able to captivate me and interest me in the film, without giving too much away. I also recognised a lot of the cast which would have made me also want to see it. I also enjoyed how intense the action scenes were.

Distribution: creating an auduience - trailer analysis

"Suffragette" (Gavron, 2015)

Target Audience:

From watching the "Suffragette" trailer, the obvious target audience is women, as the women's right to vote and what women went through to achieve this right is highlighted, through, the early feminist movement. Although, another target audience could be the younger generation as well as the minority who are still fighting for equality today, and are faced with this constant battle.

Conventions:

The trailer, shows snippets of the film and reveals that the film stars, actresses such as  Meryl Streep, and Helena Bonham Carter who are two of the most well discovered and successful actresses! The fact that they starred in the trailer will mean that more people will want to go and see the film, because of the big Hollywood names involved. The short clips of the film also allows the audience to have some knowledge of what the film is about, in the hope that it might entice them and provoke a curiosity in them to go and see the film.

Also, the soundtrack, played a big part in the trailer. The soundtrack could be seen to "pull on the heart strings" of the audience as the song chosen has a slow tempo and could help the audience to relate to the trailer emotionally. The soundtrack also provides contrast to the highly dramatic scenes showed in the trailer, making more of an impact on the audience.

RESEARCH:

SUFFRAGETTE PREMIERE:

The suffragette premiere was significant, as over one hundred feminist protestors jumped the barriers onto the red carpet. The protestors were from Sisters Uncut,  who campaign against domestic violence and explained that they wanted to bring attention to the cuts to domestic violence services.
